Open Call for Young Women Artists from the Visegrad Countries

Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation in partnership with MeetFactory, Easttopics, and Björnsonova (Slovakia) invites young female* artists to participate in the Secondary Archive, an online platform for Central and Eastern Europe women artists. The aim of the project is to promote, discover, and rediscover female artists and the most valuable phenomena of contemporary art from the female perspective in the Visegrad countries.

The Archive will collect the statements of female artists of three generations – those who were active before 1989, the generation who started their art practice right after the fall of the Communist regime, and the youngest artists, born after 1989. It will serve as an international source of information about Central and Eastern European female art for both art professionals and the wider audience. The project is supported by the Visegrad Fund and helps to build cooperation between art institutions and art professionals in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.

The open call is organized for young, emerging, and early career female artists with the aim to present their voice and perspective. The selected candidates will be asked to create an artist’s statement and will be interviewed by curators. The result of these interviews, as well as the statement and information they provide, will be published on the Archive’s website. The jury will also select one artist from each country whose vision and art practice will be encouraged with a cash grant of 500 euros**.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: Female artists of all media who were born or work in Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland or Slovakia after 31 December 1989.

SUBMISSION RULES: artists interested in participating should send both English and their native language versions of the following documents:
1) CV
2) Portfolio (20 MB max. For video, please add the links and passwords, if needed).
#) A short statement which explains one’s art practice and vision (2000 signs max. per language)

SUBJECT LINE: Open call for artists
DEADLINE: September 30, 2020, 12 p.m CET.
We encourage artists to submit portfolios as early as possible, as the jury will start reviewing and studying submissions as soon as they arrive.

SELECTION PROCESS: An international jury consisting of 5 people will be selected by the partner institutions which are involved in the project. The selected jurors will be announced before 30 September 2020. The decision of the jury will be final.

The results of the competition will be announced by October 26, 2020 on the website of the Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation, MeetFactory, Easttopics and Björnsonova.

*in relation to the definition of female we will accept curators of any gender who consider themselves females.

**even if as a grant the cash award shouldn’t be subject to taxation, this amount must be considered brutto and the final endowment will depend on the laws of each respective country.

Otvorená výzva pre mladé umelkyne z krajín Vyšehradskej štvorky

Nadácia Katarzyny Kozyry (Poľsko) v spolupráci s MeetFactory (Česká republika), Easttopics (Maďarsko) a Björnsonova (Slovensko) pozýva umelkyne, aby sa stali súčasťou Secondary Archive – pripravovanej online platformy pre umelkyne zo strednej a východnej Európy. Cieľom tohto projektu je propagovať, objavovať a znovu-objavovať umelkyne a súčasné umenie z pohľadu žien z krajín vyšehradskej štvorky. Archív bude zhromažďovať výpovede umelkýň troch generácií – tých, ktorá bola aktívne pred rokom 1989, generácie, ktorá začala svoju umeleckú prax po páde komunistického režimu, a tiež najmladších umelkýň narodených po roku 1989. Má slúžiť ako informačný zdroj o umelkyniach strednej a východnej Európy pre umeleckých profesionálov, ale aj širšie publikum. Projekt je podporovaný Vyšehradským fondom a pomáha budovať spoluprácu medzi umeleckými inštitúciami a umeleckými odborníkmi v Poľsku, Českej republike, na Slovensku a v Maďarsku.

Výzva je určená mladým, začínajúcim umelkyniam, ktoré sa narodili alebo pracujú v Českej republike, Maďarsku, Poľsku alebo na Slovensku po 31. decembri 1989.

Vybrané kandidátky vytvoria umelecký statement a absolvujú rozhovor s kurátorom/-kou. Tie budú spolu s informáciami o umelkyni  uverejnené na webovej stránke archívu. Porota vyberie tiež jednu umelkyňu z každej krajiny, ktorú podporia finančným príspevkom vo výške 500 EUR.* *

VÝBEROVÝ PROCES: Partnerské inštitúcie zapojené do projektu vyberú medzinárodnú porotu zloženú z 5 osôb. Vybraní porotcovia budú vyhlásení do 30. septembra 2020.

Výsledky budú uverejnené do 26. októbra 2020 na webových stránkach nadácie Katarzyny Kozyry, MeetFactory, Easttopics a Björnsonova.

Rozhodnutie poroty je konečné.
